Thomas Wilkinson Wallis (1822-1903): A Carved Limewood Still Life, dated 1866, carved as a Wagtail and a fly suspended on a fence backboard hung with ivy, signed T.W.WALLIS LOUTH 1866, 56cm by 33cm, in a glazed fruitwood display case, together with A Framed History of the Artist, containing reproductions of this frontispiece of Wallis's autobiography, including an illustration of the present lot and also photocopies from a Country Life article, June 5th 1958 showing the self-portrait at the Wilberforce House, Hull where he also appears to be holding the present lot Thomas Wilkinson Wallis served his apprenticeship as a wood carver in Hull before establishing his own business in Louth in 1843 specialising in the carving of trophies of game and other birds in lime. Henry Bone RA (1755-1834): After Sir William Beechey, Portrait Miniature of Samuel Whitbread the Elder, bust length, wearing a brown coat and frilled collar, oval, 9cm by 7.5cm, framed Samuel Whitbread (1720-1796) was the owner of London's biggest producer of beer, producing 202,000 barrels in 1796. Whitbread was an MP from 1768 until his death in 1796.
