Thomas White's "the new post office envelope" letter sheet, a beautiful example, dated 9 June 1840 from London to Cork, red "1" and "paid/9 ju 1840" c.d.s. in the same colour, arrival datestamp of 10 June on reverse (across flap); the letter sheet has been folded for presentation purposes to display "the new post office envelope" at right; fine and extremely rare. Only three used examples are recorded in "British Pictorial Envelopes" by Bodily, Jarvis and Hahn; the example offered here is not one of these. Photo £6,000-7,000
Note: The designer's initials "cjg" appear at the lower left, the letter sheet is inscribed "Mollrooney R.A,M." and "Jack Thomson". At the upper right of the design the words
