Sudan War Interest - A 19th Century Sudanese War Shield, of elliptical form, made from animal hide, with a central double band pierced and laced to hold the wood handle, 140cm by 71cm, the reverse set with a paper label inscribed 'From the Sudan War 1898. The article below relating to an 1899 Exhibition included these items; The Lincolnshire Chronicle Friday 6th January 1899 "W H Drewell Wht.of the 13 Lincolnshire Regiment at the Battles of Albara and Omdurman sent a fine collection of Sudan swords, relics etc"; two African Spears, each with leaf shape socket head and spike butt, with wood haft (3)**The vendor is the great nephew of the above William Henry Drewell who served in the 13 Lincolnshire Regiment £500 - 800
