A little roughly opened with flap missing, tear to upper left corner and creasing to the stamps, nevertheless an unusual redirected cover. £100-120

  1871 Athens Printing on inferior quality paper, 80L carmine-rose with control variety “8” for “80” (a tiny part of the “0” showing, as is usual for this variety), mint original gum, three large margins, cut into at upper left. With the original inscribed sheet of paper upon which this stamp was mounted when presented in 1899 by Dr Emilio Diena to W. Dorning Beckton at the Manchester Philatelic Exhibition, and the write-up pieces from Dorning Beckton’s album page. A rare variety mint. S.G. 39c, V. 41e. £150-180
