Despite much research we have not been able to ascertain which theatre the inscription pertains to. It has been suggested that this very unusual head may have been used as a stage prop or acting tool, perhaps a very strong man could place his head inside to play a part, hence the eyes that are drilled. Whether it depicts the Green Man, a satyr or the devil himself is as yet unconfirmed.
