Very impressive mounted DFM medal group and large collection of personal effects and uniforms belonging to Warrant Officer 644725 H Bailey, medals comprising a Distinguished Flying Medal awarded in 1942, 1939-45 Star, Air Crew Europe Star, Defence Medal, 1939-45 Medal, effects to include heated sheepskin lined bomber jacket dated 1940, B-type flying helmet minus goggles and breathing apparatus, large quantity of personal papers to include photographs, ID cards, log books, ID tags, personal war trophies to include two Luftwaffe type aluminium ladles, and RAF service jacket with ribbons and Pathfinder badge, trousers and side cap, 2 pairs of private purchase binoculars together with navigation equipment with assorted flight maps of the UK, France, Holland Germany with a large quantity of RAF and flying magazines. NB: Whilst on a sortie in 1942 with 149 Squadron, he had to manoeuvre himself half way down an aircraft to manually operate a flare chute, this was a million candlepower flare to light target, he pressed "flare gone release" lever as a 30lb bomb from above came straight through the fuselage of the Sterling and burst underneath the aircraft during a Ruhr trip, then 4lb incendiaries dropped into the port outer engine, causing a fire in the engine nacelle, as a result of his handling of the remaining engines, he was able to enable his crew to return to England safely, as a result receiving the DFM from King George VI at an investiture at Buckingham Palace in 1945.
