A Collection of Original Watercolour Designs Circa 1930-1950 For Wallpaper, Lino or Fabric by Jean Gossein of Gossein Brothers, Laces, Plain and Fancy Nets Manufacturers, comprising six unframed designs mainly in green with leaves and block styles, all signed, numbered with repeat, largest 62cm by 57cm overall (6)Auguste and Jean Gossein were both born circa 1880/90 in Sangatte pas-de-calais and moved to England when they were young men. Auguste initially worked as a 'Native French Professor' teaching at Trent College and Sheffield University. Jean was an artist, and in the 1911 census was listed as being a designer, based in Derbyshire, later becoming a British Citizen in 1926.
