Click to view full image... Scots Greys 1815 Waterloo Medal to Trp Serj Maj Wm Perrie 2nd or R.N. Brit Reg Dra, clip and suspension replaced, some pitting good fine. With copied research, he enlisted 25/8/94, married Ann Hubbard in Loughborough 17/11/98, sometime after Waterloo he was appointed Quartermaster of 2nd Dragoons, retired on half pay 25/12/35, appears to have run a pub called the "Waterloo Inn" in Amble, died in Amble 23/7/46. He served In Captain Barnard's troop at Waterloo and one of only 6 men with this rank to Regiment. The most iconic Regiment for Waterloo, possibly in the front row just off centre in Lady Butler's famous painting of the charge of the Scots Greys. (See photo) (R) £5000

He was commissioned by purchase in 40th Regt 5/6/40, promoted Lieut without purchase 5/3/42, severely wounded at Battle of Maharajpoor, purchased Capt 8/6/49, exchanged to 28th Foot 17/5/50, died 25/4/66. Watson Serjeant 6th Dragoon Guards 1844, edge bruise to unit, straight bar suspender with ornate claw, top suspension bar engraved 6th D.G., very fine. With typed research, Alexander Watson was born in Morpeth, enlisted 7/9/19, discharged 13/8/44 with chronic rheumatism and varicose veins, LSGC sent to him 20/1/45. With good quantity of copied research, James Lowther Southey was born in Cheshire 65/12/21, entered RN as Asst Clk 27/8/39, appointed Act Paymaster of HMS Champion 6/5/42, to HMS Fox as Clk 12/8/50, appointed Secretary 18/9/50, Paymaster 22/5/51 and still Secretary with Fox, in action with enemy 9/1/52, on board Fox with stockades in Rangoon River 31/1/52, forts 5/4/52, landed with Commodore storming of Forts 11-14 Apr 1852, on board for bombardment and capture of Rangoon, landed with Commodore at storming of Dalla 11/2/52 and storming of pagoda 14/4/52, landed with Commodore from HEIC Tenasserim in capture of Bassien 19/5/52, landed with Commodore at attack and capture of Prome 9/10/52 and present in several smaller engagements on the Irrawaddy between April and July 1852. Appointed Secretary to C in C Pacific on Ganges 13/7/57, present during San Juan Difficulty 1858-9, received thanks of Council of Royal Geographical Society 1865 & 1868, continued as Paymaster with various ships before retiring on half pay 17/8/81, appointed Paymaster in Chief (retired) 22/6/81. The Most Honourable Order of the Bath Companion's gold and enamel breast badge (CB) hallmarked 1858/9, 1854 Crimea Medal Sebastopol clasp engraved in neat upright capitals to Coll Hy R. Jones 6th Dn Gds, 1857 Indian Mutiny Medal no clasp to Col Hy R. Jones 6th Dragn Gds, Turkey Order of the Medjidie 5th Class breast badge (gold and enamel centre) and Turkish Crimea Medal (Sardinia) un-named as issued, generally very fine to extremely fine, CB missing riband buckle, other 4 with matching buckles.
General Henry Richmond Jones purchased his commission 9/6/25, purchased Lt Col 1851, commanded Regiment in Crimea, present at Battle of Tchernaya and Siege of Sebastopol, award of Medjidie in London Gazette dated 2nd March 1858. During Indian Mutiny he assumed command of General Penny's Column at Kirkrowlie when Penny was killed by the first shot fired, commanded a Brigade of Cavalry at Bareilly (CB), and the left column of Lord Clyde's force in the attack on Benhi Maidho's force at Dunderkera. Commanded Lord Clyde's cavalry during Trans-Gogra campaign, present at Magedia Chundal and Bankee, pursuit of rebels to Raptee. Became a Major General in 1865, Colonel-in-Chief 6th Dragoon Guards May 1873, promoted General 1880 and died same year. Hunter 2nd Dragoons and Turkish Crimea Medal (Sardinian) engraved to R. Hunter 2nd Dragoons, some contact marks, possibly lacquered at some time, nearly very fine. With original Illustrated London News listing him among those presented their Crimea Medals by Queen Victoria at Horse Guards on 18th May 1855. Roy Dutton's book lists him as probably rode in the Charge of the Heavy Brigade. With 4 copied pages of service record, Robert Hunter was born in Glasgow, enlisted 27/6/42, served 7 months in Crimea, discharged 21/8/63, suffered from chronic bronchitis and asthma attributed to his service in the Crimea. Also issued LSGC and probably an MSM. (See photos) (R) £800

All presented in fitted case with 59th and 89th Regt badges (unclear if these are original to issue of case), lid of case named Fred Roberts. With copied research, he was appointed Asst Sgn 11/8/37, Staff Sgn 2nd Class 25/9/46, 1st Class 8/12/54, served with 59th Foot 1837-46, AMD to 1853, 89th Foot 1853/4, half pay list 1/10/56, died in Benares 22/6/58, there a number of copied letters from his time serving in Canada. With copied rolls and hand written unit research, roll marked that Robert Nunn died on board ship the Joseph Shepherd transport 15th Dec 1854, newspapers confirm the ship was in passage from Crimea to Scutari at this time, clasps confirmed. With copied officer's statement of service, Army List and original newspaper cuttings after his death, Hugh Pollexfen Deane was born 11/12/36, commissioned in 31st Regt without purchase 24/4/55, promoted Lieut 9/9/55, served in Crimea 1856, served China 15/2/60 to 30/11/63, served throughout the 1860 Campaign in North China including action in Sinho, Storming of Tangku, also in operations against the Taepings near Shanghai with taking of stockade at Nanhsiang, capture of Kadin, Tsinpoo, Tsolin and fortified town of Najow where he was mentioned in dispatches for being the first into the fort while in command of the skirmishers, purchased his Capt 4/9/67, on retiring he served with 3rd (Militia) Bn Devonshire Regt, died in 1904. Also sold with 2 small watercolour framed portraits, 1 as a young boy and the second later in life. (See photos) (R) £600

With copied 1879, QSA and KSA rolls, listed as a Sergeant Trumpeter on 1879, also appears on FLH QSA roll as an instructor. Sold with a silver cigarette case engraved on front "Presented to Sgt Mjr W.H. Turnley Bt The NCOs & Men Head Qtrs Squad CMR 11.7.07" and a walking stick with fitted plaque engraved "Sergt Major Turnley From Colonel Lukin June 1907", the stick thought to have been made from dried rhino hide but unconfirmed.
