TRACKS IN THE SNOW [hong xue yinyuan tu ji] 1847. Yangzhou, by Lin Qing, numerous folding woodblock print illustrations, 6 volumes in a silk mounted case, 29.5 x 18 x 10cm. (6) £3,000-5,000 This book is a fine example of a self-published woodblock printed book of the mid Qing period. The six volumes document 240 separate events with accompanying images by Wang Chuquan and other artists. The present expanded edition was compiled posthumously from a lifetime of travel notes from the author Wanyan Lin Qing by his sons Wanyan Chong Shi, and Wanyan Chong Hou, who sourced craftsman in Yangzhou to complete the work as a testament to their father and his work Wanyan Lin Qing (1791-1846), became Jinshi (highest and final degree in the imperial examination) in the fourteenth year of the Jiaqing period. He served as the Governor of Rivers State of the Jiangnan region for ten years during the Daoguang period and published widely during his own lifetime.

| FOUR 20TH CENTURY WORKS FROM THE COLLECTION OF HUGH GIBB (1915-1990) (lots 59-62). | Hugh Gibb (1915-1990) first went to the Far East as a journalist for the Sunday Times, but after settling in Hong Kong in 1954 he shifted to documentary film making. His work took him across Japan, the Philippines, China and South East Asia. He collected widely and was a big supporter of young artists working as an adviser to the Hong Kong Museum of Art, the Royal Asiatic Society (Hong Kong branch) and The Oriental Ceramics Society of Hong Kong.
