Note: William IV (1765-1837) was King of Great Britain and Ireland, and of Hanover from 26th June 1830 until his death. He was the third son of George III and younger brother and successor to George IV - last King and penultimate monarch of the House of Hanover.
He served in the Royal Navy in his youth and was, during his reign and afterward, nicknamed "The Sailor King". He served in North America and the Caribbean but saw little actual fighting. Since his two older brothers died without leaving legitimate issue, he inherited the throne when he was 64 years old. His reign saw several reforms, The Poor Laws were updated, Child Labour restricted, Slavery abolished in nearly all the British Empire, and the British electoral system was reformed by The Reform Act 1832

Note: Eliza is recorded as residing in Rothesay and afterwards Stirling in Scotland. She was the sister-in-law of John Montgomery of Trinidad. Her name appears on a list of people who had an address in Scotland and were awarded compensation for slaves they owned. Her claim was dated 1834 in Trinidad, so it is likely she may have left Scotland and travelled to be with her brother-in-law
