(St Jean named James Edwd Katon Lieut R.N.) good very fine, St Jean with ornate silver buckle broach bar. A unique surname on roll, confirmed serving on HMS Cambridge for Syria. With some copied research, he was born 18/11/10 the only son of Vice Admiral Katon, entered RN College 5/11/23, appointed Midshipman on Pyramus 25/9/25, employed in ferrying troops to Malta, Gibraltar and Lisbon, in 1928 joined HMS Pallas, assisted in escorting Lord Dalhousie and the Bishop of Calcutta to Bengal, Gen Viscount Combermere from India home and Col Fox from Halifax. He then served on Ocean, Howe, Castor, Britannia as Flag Lieut, joined Cambridge 1/2/40 and participated in operations on the coast of Syria and at the blockade of Alexandria, later served on Illustrious, appointed Signal Lieut 17/6/42, promoted to Commander on being paid off 31/5/45. Roy Dutton's book the Charge of the Heavy Brigade records that John W. McLeod enlisted 18/8/40, effective on Musters 1/10/54 to 30/12/54, probably rode in the charge of the Heavy Brigade, sent to Scutari 31/12/54 where he died 28/1/55. Ex Glendinings 28/9/72.   1854 Crimea Medal Sebastopol clasp officially impressed to J. Hopwood 2nd Dragoons very fine. With copied roll which confirms he was dead when issued and typed research from muster that James Hopwood was born in Eccles, enlisted 25/1/54, recorded at Scutari 4 Sep to 9 Nov, served with the regiment 10 Nov to 19 Jan 1855, then back to Scutari and listed "He was supposed to have died on board ship". With 3 copied pages of service record, he was born in Grantham, served 1 year in Crimea and 10 years in India, also issued Indian Mutiny Medal, discharged 5/1/76 with 21 years service, must have had broken service as date of enlistment on papers is 7/1/68. With copied birth certificate Army Lists etc, James Cecil Balfour Craster was born 14/7/54 when his father was a Lieut in 38th Regt, appointed Sub Lieut in Dorset Militia 19/11/73, commissioned Bedford Regt 20/11/75, appointed Probationer with India Staff Corps 7/3/79, promoted Lieut 10/10/79, served with Kurram Field Force, Operations in the Khost Valley, the advance on Kabul and action of Charasia, to Bengal Staff Corps 11/11/82, promoted Capt 1/4/87, during Burma Campaign took part in Salay Expedition, promoted Major 20/11/95 and Lieut Col 20/11/01, retired 13/6/02, died 29/6/35. WWI The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire Commander's neck badge (1st Type) (CBE) (Military) 1882 Egypt Medal (un-dated) The Nile 1884-85 clasp, 1897 Jubilee Medal, 1899 QSA 7 clasps Relief of Kimberley, Paardeberg, Driefontein, Johannesburg, Diamond Hill, Belfast, South Africa 1901 and 1884-6 Khedive's Star to Lieut Col W.C. Middleton 2/Drgns (Lieut on Egypt, Major on QSA, others un-named as issued) pitting and edge bruising to Egypt, good fine to very fine, CBE extremely fine, last 4 court mounted for display. William Crawfurd Middleton's CBE was announced in the London Gazette dated 3rd June 1919 for service as Deputy Assistant Director of Remounts in Scottish Command. He was born in 1858, commissioned Scots Greys 13/3/78, 2 officers and 43 ORS from Greys served with Heavy Camel Regt on Nile Expedition, was 2 I/C 2nd Dragoons in Boer War 21/9/00 to 22/3/01, was present at numerous engagements including the attack at Kalkheuval Pass when he led A & C Sqns, pursuit near Belfast 26/8/00, capture of prisoners and stores near Barberton Sep 1901, MID in LG 10/9/01, awarded brevet Lt Col 29/11/00, only served at home in WWI, this his full entitlement. Bowker-Booker W.A.F.F., 1899 QSA 4 clasps Cape Colony, OFS, Transvaal, South Africa 1901 to 7285 Pte H.T.B. Booker 16th Coy 5th Imp Yeo and 1915 Star trio with MID oakleaf to Lieut H.T. Bowker-Booker, some light fire damage to QSA clasps, trio possibly late issue, court mounted for display. With copied rolls and research, Herbert Thomas Bowker-Booker served in Hazara campaign with Chief Supt Telegraph Dept (1 of only 10 clasps to Regt), no rank on E&W Africa suggests civilian employment, he was the Provincial Telegraph Officer in Southern Nigeria at start of WWI, served with 3rd Bn Nigeria Regt, MID for Cameroons campaign in London Gazette dated 31st May 1916 listed with Nigeria Posts & Telegraphs, died 17/1/17 at Calabar, Southern Nigeria, also issued a Silver War Badge. Kekewich on Constabulary) some light contact. Very fine and better. With large qty of copied research including extracts from Tiger & Rose, Cecil Henry Kekwich was born 15/11/65 in London, educated at Eton, commissioned in York & Lancs 29/8/85 from RMC, promoted Capt 2/9/91, Major 30/11/00, served overseas in Bermuda, Halifax, West Indies, arrived South Africa 29/3/91, commanded Bn Mtd Inf in 1896 Uprising, is confirmed being on board the Warren Hastings when it ran aground on Reunion Island 14/1/97, retired in 3/5/1911, served as Major and Lieut Col in Reserve of Officers in WWI, with copied MIC which states he worked as a Railway Transport Officer, only served at home no medal issued. Williams S.A.C., 1906 Natal Rebellion Medal 1906 clasp to Tpr C. Williams Natal Carbineers, 1914-15 Star to Pte C. Williams 1st Rhodn Rgt, BWM and Victory Medal to R-16258 Pte C. Williams K.R.Rif C. and Memorial Plaque to Charles Williams very fine and better. He was killed in action with 2nd Bn KRRC on 1st July 1916 and with no known grave is commemorated on the Arras Memorial. With 5 copied pages of service record, MIC, CWGC, Soldiers Died, Rhodesia info card, papers confirm served 3 1/2 years with SAC, 6 months with Natal Co, 11 months with Rhodesia Regt, enlisted in KRRC 2/11/15 aged 34, landed France 1/1/16, from Winford near Bristol. Also with 8 photos of his naming on Winford, Barrow Curney and Arras Memorials, correspondence with family and range of reproduced negatives and photos including full length in uniform wearing first 2 medals.
