Click to view full image... An American 18th Century Bureau-Desk: An incredibly rare Chippendale period bureau-desk, mahogany and white poplar, possibly of New York manufacture. The canted top above a frieze drawer, the central drawer having a well carved shell motif flanked by three drawers either side, with elaborate original brass escutcheons and a central panel door. On four ball and claw feet. H 84.5cm x W 89cm x D 47.5cm.
Provenance: By repute formerly the property of John Adams Dix (1798-1879), Secretary of the Treasury, Governor of New York and Union major general during the Civil War. £3000-5000
