A rare mid-18th century English enamel bonbonnière, South Staffordshire, circa 1765 Representing Flora McDonald, formed as a lady's head with blue earrings and hair in covered and high coiffure, gilt metal mounts. Length-7.5 cm / 2.75 inches £600-800 Flora McDonald was a famous character in Scottish history aiding Bonnie Prince Charlie escape from Scotland after the Battle of Culloden in 1746. The complexion of the face and presence of large blue earrings can be seen in a scent bottle bonbonnière combination formed as Flora McDonald, sold as part of The Mort and Moira Lesser Collection of English Enamels, Bonhams New Bond Street 19th October 2011, Lot 139.

A fine mid-18th century English enamel table snuff box, South Staffordshire or Birmingham circa 1760 Of rectangular form with chased gilt metal mounts comprising a shaped scroll thumbpiece, mauve-ground throughout the lid decorated showing Clytie and Helios with trees and clouds in the background reserved within a border of gilt rococo scrolls, the surround decorated with white trellis work enclosing quatrefoils, the sides decorated with fishing and other pastoral scenes against ruins and townscapes within similar surrounds. The interior of the lid painted with a portrait of an unknown lady, depicted in yellow attire reading a book in her left hand, in a gilt reserve.
