His son Charles Emil the Younger and a small party managed to free him, but he was re-arrested when aboard a vessel in the Stockholm archipelago bound for Danzig. He was executed on August 4th 1743 in Stockholm. His father's misfortune did not seem to have adversely affected his career and he devoted himself to Parliamentary politics and became Major General of the Swedish Cavalry The present portrait is a version of the miniature portrait by Johan Stalbom (1712-1777) https://sok.riksarkivet.se/Sbl/Presentation.aspx?id=11277 From 1733 Stalbom studied in Stockholm with the painters Johan Pasch and Lorens Pasch the Elder. He was also a contemporary of Swedish portrait painters Carl Gustaf Pilo (1711-1793) and Lorens Pasch the Younger (1733-1805). It is possible that the present portrait and Stalbom's version were painted after a known portrait of Lewenhaupt by one of these notable Swedish portrait painters £400-£600
