With 3 copied pages of service record, 1219 Henry Rolfe was born in Newbury, enlisted 6/9/38 aged 18, served in Corfu 1 year, Jamaica 3 years, Canada 3 years, S Africa 5 1/2 years, served in Kaffir War 1851-53, discharged 4/10/59, also issued LSGC. Click to view full image... 1818-55 Arctic Medal engraved below Queen's bust in neat capitals to J. McCreadie, brooch clasp has been removed from obverse, suspender has been re-attached, generally fine. James McCreadie served on HMS Hecla on William Edward Parry's expedition in 1827 to try and reach the North Pole. The landing party proposed to man-haul boat sledges, but due to the slow southern drift of the floes, their progress was slow and in fact some days when moving north for hours, they gained no distance, which must have been demoralising. The highest latitude they reached was 82o 45'N, which was a distance of 172 miles from their point of landing, but they had travelled 580 miles including relaying. This northerly latitude was to remain a record until 1875. (See photo) (Y) £900*

With 7 copied pages of service record and roll, William Symington was born in Edinburgh, enlisted in 25th Foot 27/6/70 aged 18, to India 14/11/70, volunteered for 92nd Foot 1/8/74, tried, imprisoned and sentenced to 336 days Hard Labour for insubordination and refusing to obey an order 15/6/75, tried again 1 day before his sentence finished for insubordination and sentenced to 672 days Hard Labour 15/5/76, released 1/11/76 with 504 days remission, served 1st Boer War 1881, transferred to HLI 31/8/84, discharged 12/1/92, this his only entitlement. MacLaren Indian Med Dept and 1884-6 Khedive's Star un-named as issued, extremely fine, swing mounted as worn. With copied research, James Farquharson MacLaren was born 22/10/54, M.B. C.M. 1877, appointed surgeon in Bengal Med Services 2/4/81, surgeon major 2/4/93, Lt Col 2/4/01, retired 24/6/11, died 5/8/34 in Allahabad, IMS records state present at actions of Hashin and Tamai. Dawes C.T.) heavy pitting to Egypt, some of naming worn away, Star polished, nearly fair, swing mounted as worn. With 6 copied pages of service record, John Dawes was born in Alton, enlisted 16/10/80 aged 19, promoted Cpl 5/11/84, Sgt 28/10/85, discharged medically unfit 8/11/01, this is full entitlement. With copied research, Edgar William Mck Ballantyne was commissioned in South Wales Borderers 25/7/91, seconded for service with Indian Staff Corps 3/11/93. He was Mentioned in Despatches by Brig Gen Turner for Waziristan Campaign "The Officer Commanding 1st Punjab Cavalry, brings to notice the services of:- Lieutenant E.W. McK Ballantyne, both for his pluck and dash in the charges, as well as in going into the horse lines and killing one or more of the enemy who were cutting loose the horses." He was promoted Capt 10/7/01 with 27th Light Cavalry, appointed Sqn Commander 1/5/03, awarded 1903 Delhi Durbar Medal while on duty with His Excellency the Governor of French Settlements in India, appointed ADC to Governor of Madras 30/4/04. With copied extract 16/9/1902 Bolton Evening News, "The Royal Humane Society's hon testimonial inscribed on vellum, and the Bolton Society's silver medal and certificate to Frank Smith, for having at great personal risk rescued Mary Walsh from drowning in a reservoir at Dunscar." Madders Hamps Yeo (825 on TFWM) very fine to extremely fine, swing mounted as worn. With 4 copied pages of service record, MIC and SWB roll, Walter Douglas Madders was born in Portsmouth, enlisted 10/2/13 aged 17, landed France 17/1/17, transferred to 15th Bn Hampshire Regt 17/9/17, wounded 22/10/17 in leg and later received GSW both arms severe, almost certainly during early days of German Spring Offensive, returned to UK 10/4/18, discharged due to wounds 17/10/18, error number on TFWM is confirmed on MIC.   WWI 1914-15 Star trio and WW2 1939-1945 Star and BWM to 5-4767 Pte D. Doonan R. Ir Rif (4767 on pair, WW2 un-named as issued) ww1 with minor edge bruising, nearly very fine to extremely fine. No provenance but thought to be the same 7008106 Cpl David Doonan who was killed in action aged 48 at sea during the evacuation from Dunkirk serving with 45th Coy A.M.P.C. on 23rd May 1940 and with no known grave is commemorated on the Dunkirk Memorial. With copied CWGC, Roll of Honour, casualty lists and MIC, David Doonan landed in France 14/1/15, husband of Mary Doonan of Dromore, Co Down. (R) £200*

  WWI 1914 Star trio and 1909 India GSM Afghanistan N.W.F. 1919 clasp to 53706 Gnr R. Dickson R.H.A. (R.A. on pair and IGSM) very fine to extremely fine. With copied MIC and IGSM roll, Robert Dickson landed France with L Battery 15/8/14 and entitled to clasp to star. L Battery won 3 VCs at the "Affair at Nery" on 1st September 1914 when the Battery suffered heavy casualties in action with the German 4th Cavalry Division, but fought until the last gun had run out of ammunition, but their gallantry had halted the German attack dead in its tracks and is likely that Dickson was present. The IGSM was issued while serving with M Battery, address on MIC is 133 Gordon St, Falkirk. (R) £160*

Bradford at the same address, ARP silver badge in box of issue, St John Ambulance small cross named William H Bradford and bars 1947, 1948 and range of enamel bowling badges etc. With copied MIC and SWB roll, William Herbert Bradford enlisted 1/101/5 and discharged 7/6/19. With copied MIC, William Broughton landed in France with 20th (3rd Public Schools) Bn R Fusiliers 14/11/15, was commissioned 30/10/17 and served with 9th Bn Northumberland Fus, lived 28 Church Road, Bolton.   WWI 1914-15 Star trio to 9-13892 Pte A. Richelieu K.O.Y.L.I. (Yorks L.I. on star) about very fine. With copied MIC and National Roll of Great War, "He was drafted to France 12 months after volunteering in September 1914, and during his service on the Western Front took part in much heavy fighting. He was wounded in action at Oppy Wood and was in hospital at the 7th Canadian General. Demobilised in 1919, lived 28 Autumn Terrace, Burley Lodge Road, Leeds." (R) £60*

With 8 copied pages of service record, MIC and SWB roll, Benjamin Rodhouse was born in Wolverhampton, enlisted 13/3/14 aged 19, landed France with 1st Bn 23/11/14, states he was buried up to the waist by HE shell in 10/3/15 which cause neurestheia, returned to UK permanently 25/4/15, discharged 5/6/19 and issued Silver War Badge No 01983 (this missing), sold with KRRC cap badge.
