The wash stand contains labels relating to its ownership by Lord Frederick FitzClarence, the label states 'This washing stand was that used by the Duke of Clarence during the entire time he resided at Barclay House, and also during the time he was King. Whenever H.M. went to that place during his reign, signed FitzClarence'. This is beneath a bookplate for Lord Frederick FitzClarence, there is also a reference to Lord Frederick FitzClarence at Government House, Portsmouth to the reverse. Lord Frederick FitzClarence was made Lieutenant-Governor of Portsmouth and General Office commanding South-West District in 1847
