Margaret Barnard (1900-1992) studied at Glasgow School of Art. She moved to London in the mid 1920's where she trained under Claude Flight at the Grosvenor School of Modern Art. She worked predominantly in linocut, but is also known for painting Italian landscapes and Scottish coastlines. After marrying fellow artist Robert MacKechnie (1894-1975) in 1924, the pair lived in Italy spending much of their time painting in Positano and Iona in particular. They returned to England in 1934, and settled in Watchbell Street in Rye in Sussex. Margaret Barnard was the great aunt of the vendor of the following lots. | |
