Japanese Samurai sword and scabbard brought back to UK after WW2, 74cm blade, 100cm total length, seppa and decorated habaki, tsuba with butterfly silhouettes, rayskin grip with twisted braid handle part covering menuki on both sides, kashira with lotus flower design, leather scabbard with single ring, leather holding strap is broken, some rubbing to leather parts, blade excellent, generally very fine and better. Royal Sussex Regiment's officer's blue cloth helmet, complete with King's crown frontal plate with red cloth centre, chin strap with hooks and spike, generally good very fine. With carrying tin named Major R. Terry Royal Sussex Regt, locking clasp broken but present. With copied research, Lt Col Robert Joseph Atkinson Terry was killed in action with 2nd Bn on 3rd October 1915 and is buried in Noeux-Les-Mines Communal Cemetery. He was commissioned in the Bedford Regt 13/7/92, served in operation on NW Frontier with West Surrey Regt with Malakand Field, Mohmand Field and Tirah Expeditions, served Boer War with Manchester Regt and Driscoll's Scouts where he was twice wounded and Mentioned in Despatches, promoted Capt 9/6/00, Major 22/8/02, appointed MVO 22/6/14, awarded DSO 23/6/15. Stevens & Co Ltd, London, mahogony box with key, comprising 600 approx red and blue slate gaming pieces for red and blue armies, sub-divided into Infantry, Cavalry, Artillery, Engineers, Machine Guns, Skirmishers etc, with rulers (2), compasses (2), dice (2), brass yard scales (2), callipers (2), dice shaker, yellow, red and blue pegs etc, the box 310mm x 100mm x 225mm with two lift out trays and compartment in base, generally about excellent, few scratches to lid of box, missing field board and approximately 30 pieces. This game was played on a board (missing) by Cadets learning the skills of battle strategy. (See photo) (½B) £300

General J J G MacKenzie was born 11/2/41, commissioned in QOH 7/61, appointed CO 1st QOH 1980, Commander 12th Armoured Bde 1984, Commandant Staff College Camberley 1989, GOC 4th Armoured Div 1989, Commander 1st (British) Corps 1991, Commander ACERRC 1992, Deputy Supreme Allied Commander Europe 1994, retired 1999, he was also ADC General to HM Queen 1992-96, Governor of Royal Hospital 1999-2006 and Deputy Lieutenant of Greater London. With copied research, Lt Col Lionel Frederick Machin was commissioned in 1915, Adjutant 1916, won the Military Cross in October 1917 during Third Battle of Ypres, took command of Berwick Depot in 1938 and commanded 7th Bn in 1940.
