  A PERCUSSION MUSKET & POWDER FLASK. A percussion musket with trade lockplate converted from Flintlock. The date 1788 is also present on the plate, the butt with flap pocket. An octagonal barrel of 31.3/4" has ALWAR - 1027 marked on it. 47.3/4" overall length, with a steel ramrod below the barrel. Also a copper powder flask, marked G & J W Hawkesley. £100-150

  A NAVAL TELESCOPE. A naval Watchkeepers Telescope with one draw function. Bound in various designs of geometric forms. 24.1/4" fully extended length. £40-60

  A CARTRIDGE MAGAZINE. A 500 round Cartridge Magazine complete with dividers and inner straps, with a Harrods label in metal on the inner lid. In good condition leather and brass bound, lacking only the outer straps. 19.1/4" x 11.1/2" x 6". £100-150

  AN 1897 PATTERN OFFICERS SWORD. A Weyersberg and Kirschbaum made 1897 pattern Infantry Officers swords, complete with brown leather field scabbard. The makers marks of a Knights Helm and Kings head are on the 34.1/2" blade. Etched with foilage and Edward VII cypher, the same cypher is in the guard. Made at the time of the 'Great Scandal' when German made Swords and Bayonets supplied to the British Army were suggested as, 'Of inferior quality and unsuitable' Brought to the notice of the WD and Press, the supplies were ended. It did not though stop Rudolph Kirschbaum being elected, to the Board of the Wilkinson Sword Company. £100-150

  A GENTLEMAN'S SWORDSTICK. With a Stag's Horn hilt and silver band bearing Birmingham Mint marks. Button releasing the blade from its cane scabbard, revealing a quality blade with three-quarter fullers. Marked with Defence and not Defiance in one scroll, Peace with honour on the other side also Howell London on the ornate blade. £100-150

  A BRACE OF 1888 PATTERN SWORD BAYONETS. Two 1888 pattern British Sword Bayonets, complete with steel and leather scabbards. Mk IV types with various markings to blades and hilts, including WD stamps on the very clean blades. £60-80

  A CASED MASONIC SWORD. A wooden cased Masonic sword marked Spencer & Co Gt Queens St London on the 28.3/4" blade, with cross decoration. Leather scabbard with hilt and crossguard, in a screw capped case. £70-100

  A 1907 PATTERN BAYONET. A 1907 Sanderson made Bayonet with many stampings on the blade, with straight quillion. Complete with scabbard and a brown leather frog with broad arrow mark in an inverted U. £30-40

  WARTIME MEMORABILIA. Including official military photographs of Dispatch Riders on their motorcycles, riding through rivers and off duty, offroading etc. They would appear to be early single cylinder Triumphs, all bearing OHMS front plates. Numbers include B-6611, EC1188, AO1 878 (11). Also an original newspaper copy where the photographs appeared in 1915 under the heading, 'The New cavalry'. Various papers and military booklets, regimental crest and wooden Re carved plaque. Five Regimental Xmas Cards including The Royal Scots, The Border Regt, RMC, Gordon Highlanders, Irish Guards etc. A Gt War scroll awarded to Pte Ernest William Crouch. Number 427768 KIA 9th August 1918. Husband of Elizabeth Crouch of 23 Sidney St, Gloucester, aged 34 years. £80-100

Plated straight blade of 33.3/4", with three-quarter fuller. A carved wooden grip with wire wrap, complete with a steel scabbard that has been painted silver. £100-150

Click to view full image... A GENERAL OFFICERS MAMELUKE. A General Officers Mameluke 1831 pattern sword by Wilkinsons, number 26624. Four rosettes on the grips and crossed Baton & Sword on the crossguard. Complete with a brass scabbard and clean 31.1/4" blade. Etched with crisp designs of both General Officers Insignia and Crown above VR. With the initials E F C on the blade, the property of Sir Edward Chapman. KCB FRGS. General Sir Edward Francis Chapman was born on the 14th November 1840 and died in May 1926. Commencing his service in the Bengal Artillery in June 1858. Major General in 1889, Director of Military Intelligence 1896-1901. Retiring as Master Gunner St James Park in 1916 He fought in the Abyssinia War (Despatches and Medal) in the actions at Agoree and the Capture of Magdala. Then onto China afterwards Afghanistan (Chief of Staff to Lord Roberts). He was Mentioned in Despatches twice, awarded the Medal and two bars, also a Khedives Bronze Star. Ghazni and North Afghanistan Field Force, later in the Kabul/Khandahar Force March to October 1880. Actions of Ahmed Khel then the 1st September Battle, serving in the Relief Force. Again in Burma in 1885. In 1891 he became ADC to Queen Victoria and was a KCB in 1905. Head of the Army in Scotland and Ceremonial Head of the Royal Artillery. £700-900

  A 1796 LIGHT CAVALRY VARIANT SWORD. A 1796 Variant sword of the Light Cavalry pattern, with unusual 33.1/2" blade. The addition of double three-quarter fullers and 'Scimitar' point, makes the weapon far more effective than the standard pattern. Contained in its steel scabbard, the blade spine is marked Osborn & Gunby. They are listed as working between 1808 and 1817 at 82 Pall Mall. Sword Cutlers to HM and H R H P O Wales, and the Hon East India Co. £400-600

Click to view full image... LORD CHELMSFORD'S SWORD. A Grenadier Guards sword by Henry Wilkinson of Pall Mall London, un-numbered with Lord Chelmsford's family crest on the blade. Gothic hilt with extremely clean and crisp 32" slightly curved blade, contained in a black leather scabbard with brass mounts. the 1822 pattern sword has VR and Grenadier Guards Flaming Grenade device, which is also inset in the gilt hilt guard. Provenance. Purchased as Lot 38 of the DNW Sale of the 14th December 2006. Frederic Thesiger was first the Lord then 2nd Baron Thesiger. Born 31/05/1827 he died of a seizure whilst playing snooker at the United Services Club on the 9th April 1905. Educated at Eton his Military Service was to begin, with a failure in 1844 to purchase a Commission in the Grenadier Guards. He was successful in joining the Rifle Brigade later that year. Then in 1845 he purchased a position, in the Grenadier Guards. He served in the Crimea receiving the Crimea Medal, Turkish and Sardinian Medals also the Order of Medjidie 5th Class (MID). Then in the Indian Mutiny as a Lt Col 95th (Derbyshire) Regt (MID) later as an ADC or DAAG. Again in the Abbassynian War he was at Magdala and awarded a CB also made ADC to the Queen. He met and befriended Sir Henry Bartle Frere, during his service. In South Africa with the local rank of Lt General in 1878. He successfully completed the 9th Cape War in 1878. The Disasters and final then Victory at the burning of Ulundi, are all well known. It was this last gasp victory before Garnet Wolseley took command, that partially rescued his reputation. (1879 he was awarded the GCB) His part in Zulu Dawn was played by Peter O'Toole. He is buried in Brompton Cemetery London. £2500-3000

Click to view full image... AN INDIAN MUTINY CASUALTY OFFICERS SWORD. The General Officers sword of Lieutenant Thomas Frankland Punjab Infantry, who was twice wounded at Delhi (one severe) then Killed in Action at Lucknow in November 1857. An inscription on the blade reads: Bequeathed to Colville Frankland by his brother Lieut Thomas Frankland who fell at the Head of his Regiment the 2nd Punjab Infantry during the storming of a tower in the Secunder Bagh during the Relief of Lucknow 17th November 1857. A pipeback blade of 35.1/4" with foilage decoration, in very clean condition, complete with brass scabbard. Both Thomas and Colville Frankland were the sons of Sir Frederic William Frankland of Thirkelby York. His first three sons were to die in the service of their country. Frederick Roger Frankland Midshipman HMS Winchester died of fever in Sierra Leone 23 Jan 1845. Harry Albert Frankland Midshipman HMS Alarm, died of fever off Vera Cruz 9/5/1847 Then Thomas in 1857. Sir Frederick served in the Peninsula War and at Waterloo, the family descended from Oliver Cromwells daughter Frances' line. £1200-1500

Silver plated mounts with Victorian crown and underslung bugle, with silver bullion sword knot. Very clean 33" blade with foilage decoration and the following inscription. Presented to Colonel A H Courtenay Commandant 3rd & 4th Battalions Scottish Rifles by his brother officers on the occasion of his Silver Wedding and 28 Years Service in the Regiment. 13th January 1900. The son of Thomas Lefroy Courtenay and Mary Ellen Mildmay Fullerton, educated privately and at Trinity College Dublin. Lt Lanarkshire Militia 1871 Cpt " " 1875 Mjr 3rd & 4th Scottish Rifles 1882 Lt Col 4th Bttn Scottish Rifles 1891 Hon Col " " " " 1895. Col Commandant 1895-1907. Commanded the Scottish rifles in S Africa 1900-10. QSA with three bars (MID) £1500-1800

Lions Head pommel and chequered grip, with Victorian Crowns in the quillions/guards. Brass scabbard with 18th Regiment (Royal Irish Regiment) inscribed at the throat. £500-600

One a Hound the other a Mastiff type with brass fitting to the hilt and scabbard of black leather. A high quality Imperial German period sword with makers mark for W K C. 35.3/4" damascus pattern steel pipeback blade, with over half the length covered in scrolls and inset words. Roughly translated From K Von Onirndorf to S Lt L Schnitzer 1894/95 Hessesche Lt Dragoon Regt 24. The back and reverse side of the blade decorated with Eisenhauer Damast-Stahl. Folding outer guard with a crowned Lion holding a Sword, with a silver/red bullion swordknot. A steel scabbard with twin hanging loops, composite shaped grip.. £2500-3000

A classical style blade of 31" is exceptionally clean and has the crossguard and quillions highly decorated with castlelatted designs. The scabbard and mounts are similarly decorated with a black leather over wood finish. £800-1000
