A Pair of Stylish 20th Century Danish Cast-Iron Candlesticks by Jens H. Quistgaard ( 1919 - 2008): Incuse stamped under base "Dansk Design Denmark IHQ", the slender square columns surmounted by open-work capitals, spread circular base: H 44cm. Footnote:-, from the 1950's Quistaard ground-breaking designs became synonymous with Scandinavian "modern" and found their way into homes around the world. The designs were strong, bold and industrial, and for this style of work he received the Neiman Marcus Award. Quistaard is best known as sculptor and designer for the American company Dansk Designs,From an early age Quistaard demonstrated an interest in working with metalware as he was influenced by his parents creatively, and within the "Artistic" family surroundings, he created a small workshop where he hand-made items of jewellery, bags and hunting knives. No doubt his father was a great influence as, in later years, he trained at a technical college in Copenhagen, where he learnt his skills as a silversmith and artist. £180-220

A Large 19th Century Chinese Famille Rose Mille Fleur Plate: Vividly enamelled with a variety of flowers to include peonies, chrysanthemums and lotus flowers. Guangxu (1875-1908) mark to the base and of the period, D 33cm £100-200

A Chinese Famille Rose and Grisaille Vase: Republic period, the baluster-shaped body skilfully decorated with a scene of officials and ladies in a garden. Further enriched with poetical inscription and seals. The shoulders, neck and foot rim elegantly decorated in red and grisaille bands of flower scrolls. Two applied bats to the shoulders. Qianlong (1735-1796) mark to the base. On a wooden base, each of the six feet carved possibly as a crane, H 40cm. Provenance: Edward Selby Little (1864-1939), thence by descent to the present vendor, his great-grandson.Note: Edward Selby Little travelled to China as a missionary in 1886. He established the first European Hill station (Kuling, now called Lushan, the World Heritage mountain resort) in 1895, Brunner Mond & Company in 1900 & is renowned for facilitating the negotiation of the 1912 Treaty of China for the transfer of power from the Manchu dynasty to the Republic of China. He was also the Director of International Famine Relief 1906-1907 & became the First Australian Trade Commissioner in 1923. He retired to Keri Keri, Bay of Islands in 1928 where he started a large fruit farm.N.B. Photographs are provided for provenance purposes and are not included in the Lot.
