The coronet is that of a French or English duke, the gothic initial is a C. The following French Dukes were flourishing during the period of the manufacture of this piece. Unfortunately, there were several French dukes flourishing in the period the piece was made, as listed below. Dates in brackets are those of creation.

Duc de Cadore (1816) extinct 1893; Duc de Cars (1825); Duc de Croy (1817); Duc de Crillon (1817) extinct 1870; Duc de Caramon (1830); Duc de Céreste (1830) extinct 1858

Nevertheless, if the piece was made and monogrammed for export, in the UK the only non-Royal duke extant in the 19th century was Duke of Cleveland (1833) extinct 1891. If the latter, then the piece may have been sold in the gigantic Christies Stowe (Bucks) sale 15/8-17/10/1848 when the bankrupt 2nd Duke's effects were sold in his absence abroad.
