Capt. Exham Vincent (1782-1863) was a member of an ancient English landed family, whose ancestor settled in Limerick in the late 17th century. His father was Limerick Alderman Exham Vincent and he was born there in 1782, joined the army as an ensign 54th Regt. in 1799, and served in Egypt under General Sir Ralph Abercromby. He later was commissioned, fighting in the Peninsula under Wellington before being discharged in 1815. The medal in the picture may be that issued to British Troops by the Khedive of Egypt. In later life he owned a small estate at Cloonagaheen, Killokennedy, Co. Clare and died, apparently unmarried at Reading in 1863. He wrote a journal of his military experiences (Typescript copy in National Army Museum 7611-24). £80 - 120
