VOSTOK MISSIONS: A good collection of individually vintage signed 3.5 x 4.5 photographs by the first six Russian Cosmonauts Yuri Gagarin (1934-1968, Vostok 1, the first man to journey into space, 1961), Gherman Titov (1935-2000, Vostok 2, the second man to journey into space, 1961), Andriyan Nikolayev (1929-2004, Vostok 3, the first person to make a television broadcast from space, 1962), Pavel Popovich (1930-2009, Vostok 4), Valery Bykovsky (1934- , Vostok 5) and Valentina Tereshkova (1937- , Vostok 6, the first woman to journey into space). Each of the images, representing the crew members of the complete Vostok Missions of the Soviet Space programme, depict the cosmonauts in head and shoulders poses wearing their spacesuits and helmets. All have been signed in bold fountain pen inks with their names alone to clear areas of the images. Four have traces of former mounting to the verso, one slight tear to the surface of Tereshkova's image and a slightly larger tear and some creasing to the surface of Bykovsky's image. The missions of Vostok III and IV were historic as they represented the first time that more than one manned spacecraft were in orbit at the same time.

(1937- ) Russian Cosmonaut, the first woman to fly in space on the Vostok 6 mission, 1963 & BYKOVSKY VALERY (1934- ) Russian Cosmonaut, pilot of Vostok 5, 1963. Vintage signed and inscribed postcard photograph by both Tereshkova and Bykovsky individually, the candid image depicting the two cosmonauts standing outdoors in three quarter length poses alongside several Russian military officials wearing their uniforms. Signed by Tereshkova in bold blue fountain pen ink, adding an inscription in Cyrillic in her hand, and signed by Bykovsky in bold black fountain pen ink, with his name alone, both to clear areas of the image and right white border. Together with two different unsigned vintage postcard photographs of Tereshkova and Bykovsky, the images depicting them standing together in full length poses before microphones, both holding flowers, and in one image holding their raised hands together in a jubilant manner. During the Voskhod II mission of March 1965 Leonov became the first human to conduct Extravehicular Activity (EVA) when he completed a twelve minute spacewalk.

Vintage signed 7 x 5 photograph, an unusual image of Gagarin wearing his uniform and seated in a half length pose behind a desk, apparently during a training meeting. Several notebooks and a model of an aircraft appear on the desk before him and at his side, and at the desk behind him, other cosmonauts can be seen including Valery Bykovsky. Signed by Gagarin in black ink to a clear area at the base of the image and dated 7th March 1967 in his hand. One very slight corner crease, otherwise VG £200 - 300

The image depicts the six cosmonauts, and one other individual, in full length poses walking outdoors together. Most wear their military uniforms. MERCURY-REDSTONE II: Signed 8 x 10 photograph by the Project Mercury astronauts Alan Shepard (1923-1998, American Astronaut, the fifth man to walk on the Moon) and Wally Schirra (1923-2007, American Astronaut) individually, the image depicting the launch of Mercury-Redstone II (MR-2) at Cape Canaveral, Florida, on 31st January 1961 with the chimpanzee Ham aboard. Signed by both Shepard and Schirra in bold black inks with their names alone to a clear area at the base of the image. A very light, extremely minor area of scuffing only very slightly affects an area in the upper right corner of the image, otherwise EX £100 - 150
Ham the Chimp (1956-1983) became the first hominid to be launched into space as part of America's space programme. The results he gathered during the historic flight led directly to the mission made by Alan Shepard on 5th May 1961 aboard Freedom 7.

Commander of the Apollo XIV mission and the fifth man to walk on the Moon. Signed and inscribed 8 x 10 photograph, the NASA image depicting the Mercury Capsule 7 (Freedom 7) being raised into a gantry to be mated with the Redstone Booster on 29th April 1961 ahead of Shepard's Mercury-Redstone 3 spaceflight. Signed by Shepard in bold silver ink to the image, with a very slight extremely minor smudge to the inscription. VG £100 - 150
Shepard became the second person and the first American to travel in Space in Freedom 7 during the Mercury-Redstone 3 spaceflight on 5th May 1961. It represented the United States first human spaceflight and the first manned flight of Project Mercury.

Rare vintage signed colour 8 x 10 photograph, the composite image showing the progress of the parachute landing and recovery of Sigma 7 in four stages. Signed ('Gus Grissom') in blue ink to a clear area of the upper left image. Autographs of Grissom are rare in any form as a result of his tragically early death at the age of 40 in the Apollo I fire. One very small, slight scuff to one of the images and some extremely minor corner creasing, otherwise VG £200 - 300
Sigma 7 was the spacecraft in which Grissom's fellow Mercury Seven astronaut Wally Schirra orbited the Earth six times as part of NASA's Mercury-Atlas 8 mission on 3rd October 1962.

Glenn was the first American to orbit the Earth and the fifth person in space, in 1998 also becoming the oldest person to fly in space at the age of 77. Small selection of signed 8 x 10 photographs, each of the different images depicting Glenn wearing his NASA spacesuit and two also featuring the Friendship 7 spacecraft of the Mercury-Atlas 6 mission in which Glenn performed three orbits of the Earth, 1962. Apollo IV represented the first, unmanned test flight of the Saturn V launch vehicle which was later used by the Apollo programme to send the first astronauts, including Armstrong, to the Moon.

The Apollo XI crew were confined to the Mobile Quarantine Facility after returning from their mission in order to prevent the spread of any contagions from the Moon. After almost three weeks the astronauts were given a clean bill of health and exited quarantine on 10th August 1969.
