Further enriched with poetical inscription and seals. The shoulders, neck and foot rim elegantly decorated in red and grisaille bands of flower scrolls. Two applied bats to the shoulders. Qianlong (1735-1796) mark to the base. On a wooden base, each of the six feet carved possibly as a crane, H 40cm.Provenance: Edward Selby Little (1864-1939), thence by descent to the present vendor, his great grandson.Note: Edward Selby Little travelled to China as a missionary in 1886. He established the first European Hill station (Kuling, now called Lushan, the World Heritage mountain resort) in 1895, Brunner Mond & Company in 1900 & is renowned for facilitating the negotiation of the 1912 Treaty of China for the transfer of power from the Manchu dynasty to the Republic of China. He was also the Director of International Famine Relief 1906-1907 & became the First Australian Trade Commissioner in 1923. He retired to Keri Keri, Bay of Islands in 1928 where he started a large fruit farm.N.B. Photographs are provided for provenance purposes & are not included in the Lot.
