Giovanni Fancesco Pieri (Italian, 1699-1773): A rare Fiorentine polychrome wax relief of the 'Madonna del Passeggio', after Raphael, circa 1750, indistinctly inscribed on remnants of label verso, H 20 x W 15cm.Provenance: Christie's, London, 3rd July 1990, 9.Note: The present, well preserved example is a duplicate of a much restored one in the Museo Nazinale di San Martino, Naples (Inv. 6663), signed by Pieri & dated 1749 in ink to the reverse. Pieri was born in Tuscany & specialised in rendering paintings in fine polychrome wax low reliefs. He worked for Gian Gastone de Medici & later travelled to Naples to work for the Neapolitan Courts of Carlo di Borboni and Ferdinando IV. £4000-6000
