BAYNES and Defence medal, together with miniature examples and a Distinguished Service to the City of New York medal, (11)Edward Stuart Augustus Baynes was born in 1889 to Edward Neil Baynes and Charlotte Augusta Irby. He studied architecture at Radley College, Oxford, and had barely started his career when war broke out. Baynes enlisted with the King's Royal Rifle Corps and was promoted to Captain in the service of the 11th Battalion. He fought in France and was wounded twice, probably during the Somme Offensive of 1916. After the war, Baynes worked in the Department of Overseas Trade (1918-1940), the Dominions Office (1941-1946) and was UK Trade Commissioner to Ireland between 1946-1954, during which time he was awarded an O.B.E. An interest in Lepidoptera (butterflies and moths) led to the publication of A List of Irish Butterflies in 1960 and the Revised Catalogue of Irish Macrolepidoptera in 1964.Edward Stuart Augustus Baynes died in 1972. £300 - 500

Derwent when on 2nd May 1917 she struck a contact mine laid by German Submarine UC-26 off the coast of Le Havre, France. She sank two cables North of Whistle Bouy with the loss of 58 Officer's and men. £100 - 150

  A WW I trio to include 1914-15 Star, naming LIEUT. W.J. DOBSON. 1 - CAN. INF., British war and Victory, naming MAJOR W.J. DOBSON, together with a 1st Canadian Battalion Ontario Regiment badge. (4)The 1st Canadian Infantry Battalion was a battalion of the Canadian Expeditionary Force which was created on 2nd September 1914 with recruits from the "Military District 1" Western Ontario. The battalion set of for England on board the Laurentic berthed in Quebec. They arrived in England on 14th October 1914 with a strength of 45 officers and 1121 men. The battalion became part of the 1st Canadian Division, 1st Canadian Infantry Brigade where it saw action at Ypres and along the Western Front. £200 - 300
