Lots 54-58
The following five scarves reputedly belonged to Fern Bedaux and were inherited by the current vendor from Fern's niece after her death in 2002. Fern Bedaux (nee Lombard) was the daughter of a wealthy lawyer. She married Charles Bedaux in 1917 and, with her husband, the well-educated socialite became a millionaire. In 1934, Fern and her husband embarked on a sub-arctic expedition, filmed by Hollywood cinematographer, Floyd Crosby, dressed in her finery and taking with her an extensive wardrobe including Hermes and Balenciaga. Fern formed a friendship with Wallis Simpson whom she allowed to reside at her home in France while Wallis awaited her divorce. The house, now famed due to Wallis's stay, houses her extensive wardrobe, some of which is on view at the V&A and the Louvre.
