With Illustrations by John Leech, Charles Dickens, 1843, 'Second Edition', [8] pp 166 [2] adverts; frontispiece and three further full page, colour plates with four woodcuts in the text. The title page is printed in red and blue with 'Second Edition' above the imprint although this early impression was being sold within a couple of weeks of the first which was issued just before Christmas 1843. The half-title is printed in blue, with yellow endpapers and 'Stave One' as the chapter heading; page 12 line 16 'poor' corrected to 'Poor'. All edges gilt in publisher's cloth with gilt decoration including holly wreath decoration to the upper board, spine lean. Early Manchester bookseller's ticket 'H Whitmore' on front pastedown. A very good copy in the original format of the 'greatest Christmas book from the pen of any man' - John C Eckel, Dickens' bibliographer (Illustrated) £400-600
