Note: Lemberg (1907 -1928) won a total of seventeen races including the Chesterfield & Rouse memorial stakes at Newmarket in 1909. The following year he won the Epsom Derby & such was his reputation that Lemberg was valued at £40,000. He was eventually retired to the Hamilton Stud at Newmarket. £800-1200

  Alfred Wheeler (British, 1851-1932): Minoru, oil on board, signed & dated 1909, H 41 x W 41cm.
Note: Born in 1906, Minoru was owned by Edward VII and his win at the Epsom Downs racecourse made him the first horse to win the Derby for a reigning monarch. He was trained by Colonel William Hall & by Richard Marsh in the Egerton House at Newmarket. Unlike Lemberg, he did not live out his retirement at Newmarket but was sold to a breeding operation in Russia. Unfortunately he appears to have disappeared in the 1917 Russian Revolution. £800-1200
