The printed roll lists Thomas Cutler as the Bosun's Mate on HMS Bellerophon but only entitled to the Syria clasp, medal also noted as known in 1967 with both clasps, the clasp is a double carriage so not a case of an additional added, with copied roll. Sold with excellent range of original supporting documentation including Board of Trade Certificate of service dated 1862, Certificate of Discharge & Character (E2) dated 1859, 2 x Certificates of Character (E1) dated 1857 & 58, Mariner's Register Ticket dated 1852, 1887 Railway Warrant etc, Henry Howorth (or Howarth) was born in Crowle, Lincolnshire 24/11/35, served as a Boy on Fisgard 6/12/52, joined Terrible 15/6/53 to 2/8/56 and served in Crimea, listed as Ord Seaman on roll, later served Wellesley, Exmouth etc, last entry is Oct 1862, died 11/10/89. With 4 copied pages of service record, roll and research letter, Michael Hunt was born in Gibraltar, enlisted in Jersey 24/4/51 aged 17, served at Relief of Arrah Aug 57, Havelock's relieving column Sep 57, defence of Lucknow Oct-Nov 57, before Lucknow Dec 57-Mar 58, had 6 spells in prison, discharged 13/5/66 suffering from Phthisis Pulmonalis and stated very ill and will never be able to earn his livelihood. Edmonds Coldm Gds (star un-named as issued) extremely fine. With copied roll serving with Camel Corps, clasps confirmed and roll marked Dead, which would explain the condition of the medal being free from usual pitting when worn. Stuart R.N. (Lieut, H.M.S. Ranger on Egypt and IGSM, Star un-named as issued) extremely fine. HMS Ranger was an Algerine Class composite screw gun-boat launched in 1880. John Francis Stuart was promoted Lieut 30/12/79, Commander 31/12/96, allowed to assume the rank of Captain on the Retired List 31/12/11, with copied rolls, only BWM issued for WWI. There were 81 no clasp Egypt Medals to the ship and 59 Burma 1885-7. (See photos) (R) £600
