He was the son of an Ulsterman who migrated to the US but returned and later bacame the co-proprietor of Brown Shipley & Co., import/export merchants of Liverpool. The firm still exists as Brown Shipley, a subsidiary of KBL European Private Bankers SA. Sir William was High Sheriff in 1863 and had been a Liverpool alderman and MP for South Lancashire. £150 - 200
