These notes are not listed in the Hern catalogue but this extremely rare hand signed and dated note proves that they did and do exist as issued notes. The two different serial numbers and their "circulated" condition strongly confirm that they were issued. Hern states that the notes were "First issued on the 15th April 1865. £6700 in denominations of £5, £10 and £20 were said to have been ordered but I doubt if they were indeed issued. 23,300 x £1 were circulated through the Bloemfontein Bank."
