Generally Near Mint overall, contained in an ORIGINAL Near Mint [some minor storage wear] Blue Illustrated Window type box with [replacement] Cellophane Sleeve. Complete with Brown Heavy Duty Paper Wholesale Distribution Bag used for Trade Deliveries. Printed - "AIRFIX CONSTRUCTION KITS. SHIPS - CARS - AIRCRAFT AND 0-0 SCALE RAILWAY BUILDINGS 1 [Doz. has been ink blocked] AIRFIX PRODUCTS LTD., LONDON, S.W.18." The Printed Paper Label reads - "PARATROOPERS PATT. NO. 1712". The Bag is also Stamped "SAMPLE" & with the Model Shop Details in Red. This set was released in June 1968 and replaced after a few months with the familiar "Brown Box" version. This version of the set was never popular due to the Figures being extremely fragile and Prone to Break, the Box was also very flimsy once the shrink-wrap was removed, only ONE other Original set is known to exist [reputed sold during 2006/7] this therefore is possibly the Rarest Airfix item in existence. Originally left as a sample by an Airfix Sales Representative with a Middlesbrough Model Shop in 1968, the set was briefly displayed as a forthcoming release with the figures standing in front of the box in the Shop Window before being packed away in the bag where it has remained for the past 47 years.
