Fay had a long friendship with Michael Ayrton who was the dominant influence on her work. Like William Blake she was also a visionary artist (stating that she had visions from the age of eight) and her stylized works explore themes of war, the bible and redemption. She was President of The Sheffield Society of Artists and exhibited widely throughout her career in both solo and mixed shows at the Ben Uri Gallery, Redfern Gallery, Molton and Leicester galleries in London amongst others.
