Note: In Sept. 1966 eighteen armed members of the Argentine CONDOR Group hijacked an Aerolineas Argentinas DC4 and landed it on Stanley Racecourse with hostages. After successful intervention the aircraft was released and flown back to Argentina

The S.S. Great Britain, designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunell, made her maiden voyage in July 1845 and until 1854 was the largest passenger ship in the world.
In 1884 she was retired to the Falkland Islands and was used as a warehouse, quarantine ship and coal hulk before being scuttled in 1937.
In 1970 the Great Britain was returned to Bristol for restoration and today is a popular visitor attraction.
