  WWI 1914-15 Star trio to W-272 Pte J. Hindley Ches R. good extremely fine. John Hindley was killed in action with 15th Bn on 24th October 1917 and with no known grave is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial. With copied extract from Port Sunlight Golden Book, Private John Hindley was captain of one of our boats before joining the Cheshires in September 1914, and had been with Lever Brothers since Feb 1909. A letter from his officer brought the sad news he died from the bursting of a shell at the post he was assisting to hold. Private Hindley had been wounded earlier in the campaign, but did not make this generally known. With copied CWGC, Soldiers Died and MIC, landed France 25/9/15, from New Ferry. (R) £60

With 14 copied pages of service record, Ivor Stanley Phillips was born in Liverpool, enlisted 27/4/15, embarked Australia 16/6/15, landed Gallipoli 6/8/15, wounded Battle of Lone Pine 8/8/15 with bomb wound right leg and GSW right thigh, arrived Alexandria 11/8/15, re-joined unit in France 26/7/16, wounded in action again in left leg, right thigh and chest 17/4/17, the leg wound was so severe it was amputated, he returned to Australia on H.M.A.T.   Rare RAF casualty WWI BWM and Victory Medal to 103484 2 A.M. H. Yates R.A.F. good extremely fine. Harold Yates died of wounds serving with 1st Aeroplane Supply Depot Repair Park on 10th November 1918 and is buried in Terlincthun British Cemetery, Wimille. By September 1918 the 1st Aeroplane Supply Depot was based at Marquise, near Boulogne. On the night of 23/24 September, the Depot was attacked by 13 German bombers in a devastating raid, during which 43 men were killed and 124 wounded. Also 26 planes were destroyed and 73 damaged. With copied service paper and CWGC, he was born 24/3/1890, enlisted in RFC 9/10/17 as a carpenter stating 258 days former service with Kaffarian Rifles, he was wounded in legs, thigh and hand 23/9/18 and admitted to 53 General Hospital, from Liverpool.   1915 Hill 60 DCM winner's BWM to 9019 Sjt P. Griggs E. Surr R. extremely fine, toned. Philip Griggs died of wounds during the Battle of the Somme with 1st Bn on 20th July 1916 and with no known grave is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial. His DCM was announced in the London Gazette dated 23rd June 1915 "For conspicuous gallantry on "Hill 60", when, during a heavy bombardment by the enemy preceding an attack, he moved about to all the most heavily shelled parts of the trench occupied by his platoon, and superintended repairs with the utmost coolness." With copy of Regimental History page "The early morning of the 20th, which like the previous day was fine; in rear of the hill the fire of the enemy's heavy howitzers was very accurate and caused much damage to the parapets. On the left, No 5 platoon of B Coy, under Lt Evanson, observed a party of the enemy working on their sap at X and tried to bomb them from C, the end of the trench BC, but without success. The end C was then broken down by German field-guns. It was eventually blocked again by some very brave men of No 6 platoon under the direction of Sergt P. Griggs, who subsequently received the DCM."
