The Martins had purchased considerable quantities of Russian bank bonds which were deposited in the local bank. In 1918 the town surrendered to the Bolsheviks who confiscated and subsequently destroyed the bonds. The protest was made via the Vice Consul of the Netherlands who has signed the protest.
