SUSSEX TIP CART to suit 16-2 to 19-1 hh; the body painted mid blue, on red metal bound wheels, and with red shafts. Basically sound and one new wheel has been fitted, although the paintwork requires attention

CONTINENTAL SHOOTING PHAETON circa 2000, to suit a 14 to 15-2 hh pair; smartly finished in varnished natural wood with black vinyl seating. With wedge driver's seat, hand and foot disc and parking brakes, and storage box to the rear

LEDGE GYPSY WAGON built by George Cox of Hereford circa 1925. A superb example by a renowned and respected builder of wagons, in a traditional finish of red lake to the match-boarded body, with light yellow metal bound wheels, shafts, unders and shutters, all precisely lined and highlighted. The body is profusely carved and embellished, with a great deal of gold leaf, the wooden carvings being of fruit, birds and scrolls, with gargoyles to the corners. The side cages have delicate painted spindles, the edges have been well chamfered and the mollicroft is mounted with etched glass. The rear decoration echos that of the front porch and door, all mounted with brackets, with a cratch and pan box plus shafts, steps and handbrake in front. The wooden interior is fitted as would be expected, with bed, cupboards, drawers and stove, all lined and decorated. The wagon cost £175 to build and was restored in 1966 by Mr Cox himself, the interior murals being repainted by Mr Wood

BAKER'S DELIVERY HAND CART built in 1896 and fully restored in the early 1980s, now finished in mint and dark green, with a grey top section, with gold writing 'London Co-operative Society Ltd.' A pretty collector's item on neat metal bound wooden wheels

FOUR-WHEELED MILK FLOAT on three-stud artillery wheels and built in 1938 for Express Dairies. Purchased by Mr Dave Dickerson in 1955 as part of a job lot of five floats for £120, it was taken to Kings Lynn where it was used on a milk round in the Elm, Friday Bridge and Wisbech area during the 1950s and 1960s, the milk coming from an eight acre 60 gallon small holding in Elm. In the late 1960s the floats were replaced by motorised vans and more recently this one has been salvaged and fully restored to show condition, and painted in Mr Dickerson's original livery of green and cream, with sign writing

BAKER'S VAN on three-stud artillery wheels, and in a show finish of green and cream, now being ready for the show ring. One of two vans used in the Christchurch area by a Mr Hayball, both were replaced by a motorised van in 1960, one being sold for use in the film industry and this one going to a horse dealer who had it fully restored using air dried oak and ash. The front canopy is well shaped and the rear is fitted with slatted shelves

WELL BOTTOM GIG the axle marked Selby & Son, Birmingham 1892, to suit 13-2 to 14-2 hh; in a show finish of royal blue, lined in light blue and gold, with buttoned navy melton upholstery and black patent dash and splashboards. A pretty show gig on dennett springs, which was restored two years ago by Fairbourne Carriages, when new swan neck shafts were fitted. The photograph shows the old shafts

FOUR-WHEELED RALLI CAR by Kelly of Windemere circa 1900 to suit 13-2 to 14-2 hh, single, pair or tandem; smartly painted dark green with yellow lining, and black buttoned leather upholstery. An attractive and versatile traditional vehicle which has neat mudguards in addition to the curved sides, a handbrake, shafts and a pole

MANCHESTER CART built early 1900s, to suit 15-3 to 16-3 hh, single or tandem; painted dark blue with red lining and upholstered in black leather. A good, traditional type which is in good order, on 16-spoke wheels, with adjustable balance, swingletree and new lancewood shafts

WHISKY to suit 14-3 to 15-3 hh, single or tandem; painted dark blue with red lining, the narrow single seat covered in buttoned black leather. A relatively rare vehicle which was rebuilt by Ball Bros. of South Kilworth, Leicestershire, having been traditionally used by either young men or doctors to cover the ground quickly

BROUGHAM to suit 13 to 14-2 hh; finished in dark green with good upholstery. Has been used for weddings

TONNEAU GIG circa 1900 to suit 11-2 to 12-2 hh; finished in varnished natural wood with fine painted wheels and brown buttoned upholstery. A rare vehicle in a desirable small size, which is in good condition, with distinguishing features such as the cab fronted dash, enclosed body resembling a governess car and well-turned spindles to the body. To be sold with a letter from a Welsh museum dated 1924 and newspaper clippings

DOG CART by Mulliner of Birmingham circa 1890 to suit 12 to 13 hh, single or tandem; in a show finish of black to the body, with green wheels and shafts lined straw yellow, with green melton upholstery. A fine quality vehicle in a sought after size by an important builder, which has been exhibited with success, the wheels, shafts and upholstery having been recently made and fitted by Fairbourne CarriagesThe following five carriages were formerly the property of the Honourable Mrs Caroline Partridge, who purchased them in the 1960s and 1970s. Her father was the6th Baron Brownlow and her maiden name was Cust,the family coming from Belton House in Lincolnshire,the carriages having been on display there and also at Burton Constable House. All are fine quality examples of their type, most by builders of note and were well documented by Mrs Partridge. The Governess Car and Sleigh bear the lion crest of the Cust family

GOVERNESS CAR by Brown & Sons of Slough & Windsor; the tub body painted brown with fine yellow lines, the 16-spoke wheels and shafts in red, with red upholstery. A good example by a leading builder, which bears the Cust family crest on the back, next to the owl crest of Mr Partridge

BASKETWEAVE 'LAUNSTON' GIG circa 1900; the body painted black on cream yellow metal bound wheels with black lining. One hub is marked 'Moor & Son of South Molton' but it may not be original, this being an unusual vehicle which has long, arched mudguards and a footbrake, whose wicker may have originally been varnished. The family note that they believe it was made for a rather stout lady to drive round hilly Devon countryside

VIS-À-VIS PHAETON by Jacobs of Guildford to suit a pony single or pair; painted dark coaching green with light lining and buttoned beige upholstery. A pretty ladies type vehicle, with a handbrake, pole and shafts which was restored by Glover & Webb of the Old Kent Road in 1962

CHAIR BACK GIG by Wm. Kinross of Stirling circa 1890 to suit a small pony; in varnished natural wood with light brown cushions. An attractive country type vehicle on pretty wheels, which is by a builder of some quality and thought to have been made for a Scottish lady, having whitemetal fittings

CUTTER SLEIGH by Flandrau & Co. of Broome St., New York circa 1890, extensively restored by Offord & Sons in 1963; finely painted in red and black, with buttoned red cushions and bears the Cust family crest. An elegant American sleigh which is true to type

HOODED GIG by Gebr. Roecoert, Alkmaar, on elliptic C-springs; smartly painted red and green, lined white, with good quality buttoned green cloth upholstery. An attractive traditional vehicle which will be sold with lamps

RALLI CAR by Chevington of Newport, Isle of Wight; the body in varnished natural wood, on maroon 16-spoke wheels, with gold lining and buttoned brown vinyl seating. In need of shafts, and two spokes on one wheel require attention

LONDON TROLLEY on artillery wheels and pneumatics; painted red and in need of restoration. A neat trade vehicle which would merit the work, having very well scalloped edges, ladder fronts and front seat on chains, plus footbrake and shafts

CHILD'S HEARSE built circa 1875; a profusely carved and highly ornate scale hearse which would benefit from full restoration. The body has a raised, peaked roof, is glazed and on light wooden wheels, the corner supports being in the form of cherubs
