A First World War Gallantry Group of Three Medals, awarded to MAJOR F.C.WEST., comprising Military Cross, British War Medal and Victory Medal (MID), with the miniatures and various ribbon bars, together with a Verner's Pattern VII black enamelled brass pocket compass by J Wardale & Co., London, dated 1916, in an associated stitched leather case stamped F.E.WEST, and a folder of copy photographs and research material**London Gazette 23.07.1918 - Lieutenant West was awarded the Military Cross for conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during several days of intense rearguard and village fighting. By setting a high example of cheerfulness, courage and skill he was instrumental in delaying large bodies of the enemy during a retirement, on several occasions permitting his detachment to be almost completely surrounded, and withdrawing it at the last possible moment with a minimum of casualties.
