| TWO GREAT WAR BROTHERS MEDALS 1/4th SLI & WILTS/MFP. Gt War British War & Victory Medals named to 4422 Pte E G Lapham Somerset Light Infantry. 201675 Pte Edgar George Lapham 1st/4th SLI died in Mesopotamia 29/06/18. Cloford. Somerset. His brothers pair named to 19296 Pte P J Lapham Wilts Regt and (Military Foot Police). Also a GV Special Constabulary medal named to Percy J Lapham. His notebook and whistles also Truncheon are with the medals. Postcards that Percy wrote home from F& Flanders to his sweetheart are also with the group. A typed letter from Detective Sergeant J Scott MFP states, I respectively beg to inform you that on Sunday 20th April 1919 the below named prisoners escaped from escort whilst being conveyed from No 1 Military Prison to No 2 Military Prison in a lorry. Knowing them to be most dangerous criminals I immediately circulated their descriptions and made search and enquiry for them. On Monday 21-4-19 at 12:30 hrs I was proceeding along Boulevard Gambetta in a motor car accompanied by Prob Detective L. Cpl Lapham, when I met all the above named men together going in the direction of Darnstal. On seeing me all ran away, Lapham and I immediately gave chase in the car and overtook Pride & Burrows. I held them up with my revolver while Lapham secured them. 'Abridged copy of the much fuller letter'. £100-150 |

| A DCLI 1914 STAR/BAR TRIO-PLAQUE & SCROLL. A 1914 Star and Aug-Nov bar named to 8446 Sjt T Travers 1st DCLI. British War and Victory medals named to 8446 Cpl T Travers DCLI. The Plaque Thomas Travers and the (Scroll named to Lt Sjt Thomas Travers), probably meant to read L.Sjt, all in a contemporary frame. Thomas Travers was from a Dorset family, a regular soldier who was Killed in Action on the 22nd of October 1914. Aged 22 years old, he was the son of Joseph & Ellen Travers of St Mary's Street, Beaminster. Dorset. Commemorated on panel 19 of Le Touret Memorial. Some 13,400 British Soldiers are commemorated on this memorial, between Bethune and Armentieres . Almost all of those who are commemorated were killed in action fighting from early October 1914 onwards. Heavy fighting took place between Estaires in the north and Grenay in the south. In October 1914 the BEF IInd Corps moved north from Picardy to positions in French Flanders. Attacks and Counter Attacks became known as the Race to the Sea, always overshadowed by the German Strongpoint of Aubers Ridge. Some 900 identified graves of Commonwealth Servicemen, are with those who's remains were not found or identified. See Illustration £250-300 |
