| AN OBE - GT WAR - IGS GROUP OF SIX TO A CAVALRY OFFICER A 2nd type Order of the British Empire (Military). A 1914/15 Star named to 15742 Pte H Witchell 11th Hrs. British War and Victory medals named to Lt H Witchell. IGS bar Afghanistan N.W.F.1919 Lt H Witchell S.T.C. Defence Medal, unamed as issued. Commissioned into the 2nd Reserve Regiment of Cavalry in 1918, he was transferred to the Indian Army shortly after. Mounted for wear with a set of mounted matching miniatures, also an OBE Case from the Royal Mint. Serving in France from 28th November 1914, commissioned in June 1917, he was transferred into the Indian Army in 1918. Harry Witchell retired from the Indian Army in 1922. In 1956 a Lt Harry Witchell 9th Cheshire (Crewe) Home Guard Battalion was awarded an OBE Military on the 31st May 1956 (Birthday Honours). His address in the Gt War was given as 58 Medlock Street. | A GOLD SOLIDUS OF THE EMPEROR VALENS. A Gold Solidus of the Emperor Valens, of the Eastern Roman Empire. 364-378 AD. The coin is mounted in a 15ct bar brooch, with removable ring outer leaving the coin as minted. (22mm dia) The legend reads, DN VALENS. P.F.AVG obverse, RESTITVTOR . REIPVBLICAE reverse legend with RB below the standing figure Valens was a fighting Emperor who was killed in the Battle of Adrianopole, in 378 AD, leading his army of 20,000 soldiers. The survivors on the Roman side were very few in number. This coin was ploughed up in a field in Somerset in 1963. See Illustration £350-500 |

| A NAVAL GENERAL SERVICE 1909-14 BAR GROUP OF FOUR MEDALS. A Naval General Service medal with bar Persian Gulf 1909-1914, named to 238667 H. Daniels. A.B. HMS Espiegle. 1914/15 Star, British War & Victory medals, named to 238667 H Daniels. L.S.R.N.. HMS Espiegle was the last Royal Naval ship launched with a Ships Figurehead at the bow. Serving in the Far East and Persian Gulf prior to the Gt War. Of 1070 tons when launched in 1900 with a crew of 150 officers and men. Of the Cadmus class and originally planned to have though not fitted, sails. Six 4" guns were her main weapons, with a top speed of some 13 knots. Her Battle Honours for the Gt War are Mesopotamia 1914-1916. Henry Daniel was born in 1891 at Lewisham. London. Kent. Usual place of residence Plassy rd. Catford. Enlisted 1909 for 12 years service. entitled to NGS Persian Gulf, 1914/15 Star, Bwm & Victory Medals, Silver Wound Badge. 5 Chevrons awarded, share of Naval Prize Fund. Service in ships included four years in Espiegle 1912-16. Other ships include Duke of Edinburgh and Furious etc. Granted a hurt certificate when struck on head by Gallows Block-inflicting a 2" scalp wound. £150-200 |

A 1914 Star, British War & Victory medals named to 7003 Pte C F Pittock 7th Dragoon Gds on the Mons star, and on the pair 7003 Sjt E F Pittock of the 7th Dragoon Guards. Sjt E F Pittock a crack shot in the Regiment is entitled to a silver wound badge. He lost an eye near Cambrai whilst serving in the Guards Machine Gun Regiment. This after being transferred from the Cavalry. He served in WWII in the Home Guard. With the medals are his marksman badges in cloth, won whilst serving in India prior to the Gt War. A copy of the form concerning the injury Sjt Pittock received is with the lot. Sjt E F Pittock late Guards Machine Gun Corps, now serving with the 1st Life Guards Machine Gun Regt. 'C' Corps. 1. Injury. Loss of Right Eye. 2. Where. In the Line near Cambrai. 3 Date. Oct 12th 1918. 4. Incurred. Was attacking with section had shot four of the enemy with his revolver. Then was hit by enemy bomb or shrapnel. Comrades either side killed. 5. No court of enquiry held. 6. Eye witnesses. MO i/c 1st Life Gds Battn MGC. Capt Anderson etc 7. Hospital. Nr Rouen 8.
