The slip named to 5620879 Trooper J F Welsford, who was KIA on the 28/6/1944, interred in Bayeux War Cemetery. Aged 28 the son of Herbert Owen and Mildred Welsford of Ilfracombe Devon. The father of Albert & William Hockaday. A 1914/15 Star, British War & Victory medal trio named to 11432 Pte A Hockaday R. Berkshire Regt. A 1914/15 Star, British War and Victory medals named to 11433 Pte W C Hockaday R Berkshire Regt. Albert and Mrs E Hockaday's sons joined at the same time and received their consecutive numbers into the R Berkshire Regt. Albert was aged 22 years when he was Killed in Action in France on the 24/05/1916. Buried in the Aubigny Communal Cemetery Extension His younger brother Walter Cornelius Hockaday was Killed in Action on the 16/04/1915, buried in Vielle-Chapelle New Military Cemetery, Lacouture. Pas De Calais. Mrs Ellen Hockaday lost both her sons and her husband during the war years. She remarried CQMS C Lynch of the Royal Irish Regt. They lived and enlisted in Birmingham, residing at 74 Reginald Rd, Bearwood, Birmingham. See previous lot. £500-600 |
