| A SOLDIERS DIARY IN WWI MESOPOTAMIA. A Diary with hand written account of a soldiers wartime experiences, from 1916 in India, Egypt and Mesopotamia. Starting on The Wiltshire an Australian Ship of 15,000 Tons, May 23rd 1916. Crete, Port Said and Karachi are mentioned in the notes. On arrival at Amara the author went to Hospital then Convalescent Camp in July 1916. Upon recovery a week later he is picked for a Firing Party at 5:30 and notes 'Three Men Buried'. Again whilst a Guard at the British Detention Camp, he was picked for two more firing parties. He mentions Outpost Duty where 'The Arabs are very treacherous and always pinching stuff. Turkish Aeroplanes raided the Battalion before being relieved by the 1/7th Hants. (March 1918). Whilst at Moasca? Pte Storey drowned himself. Whilst marching to camp L Cpl Shipton who had not been feeling too grand, fell out. Just after the regiment marched away, he shot himself. 13/7/1918 'Our patrol runs against a Turkish patrol & Sjt Johnstone gets hit in the chest & dies before they get him back. 16/09/18 one of our Aeroplanes brought down in No Mans Land, the Observer was killed but the Pilot got off with a broken arm and a bullet in the thigh. These are similar to the other entries, completed by photographs and pressed flowers from the Holy Land etc. Believed to have been written by either a soldier called Felix or Sam Highmore. | CASED PAIR OF WESTLEY RICHARDS POCKET PISTOLS. A pair of gentleman's Westley Richards pocket pistols C 1850, in original case. The 3" octagonal barrelled smooth bore percussion pistols, have platinum bands and plugs. Westley Richards on the top of the barrels and again on the case hardened actions. Spur hammer and sliding safety's, chequered butts with concealed hinged backplates, to hold balls and caps (one needing catch repair). Swivel ramrods and an overall length of 8", narrowing inward flared breech with sights fitted. Blued furniture with ornate engravings of foliage etc. In the original mahogany case with Westley Richard label Gun Manfacturer to His Royal Highness Prince Albert. Birmingham and 170 New Bond Street London. Sykes pistol flask, ball mould, screwdriver and nipple spanner are present, together with other spare nipples, brass handled wooden hammer etc. See Illustration £2500-3500 |

A bust portrait signed Archduke Frederick of Austria 8-11th June 1904. The Archduke was supreme commander of the Austro-Hungarian Army during WWI.
