MILITARIA, ARMS AND ARMOUR

A SHIN-GUNTO KATANA. A military Shin Gunto Katana with signed tang, and leather covered saya. The translation reads 'Made by Hatori Masahiro at Seki in Mino province'. The name of the person who probably captured the sword is also engraved on the tang. Jemedar . P. Narayana.Sami. 18950 Q.V.O.M.S & M. Bangkok. (Siam) 1945. The blade length is 22.5", with some light staining evident. (No-Shu. Seki Ju. Ha-Tori. Masa Hiro. Saku) £500-700

A PICKLEHAUBEN. A Great War period Bavarian Officers Picklehauben with spike top. Lacking chin strap and lacing internally, the brass badge reads In True Fest. £300-400

A MUGHAL SWORD. An Indian sword of the Mughal Dynasty, with gold inscriptions on the blade. On one side of the curved 28" blade is the date 1187 AH and Ya Fatah. On the other side is a verse from the Koran relating to Victory. Almost a full length fuller and double-edged yelman at the point. Various traces of gold inlay are evident, the hilt and scabbard are both only partially complete. The date in a western terms would appear to be C1770 AD. £150-250

SWORD HILT CANDLESTICKS. Brass Victorian sword hilts converted to candlesticks on spur raised stands. VR cyphers in the hilts and brass circular base, mounted on three inverted brass spurs Approximately 12.25" high. £100-150

A POWDER CARRIER. A leather covered powder carrier, with Royal Crest decoration, under a Kings Crown. 16" high with a diameter of 9" approximately, hessian cloth lined. £100-150

A VICTORIAN OFFICERS SABRETACHE FRONT. A Royal Artillery Sabretache with the back removed to allow it to be framed. Bullion decoration includes RA motto, Lion & Unicorn etc. £150-250

A FRAMED RSM WELSH GUARDS PORTAIT. A superb formal photograph of a Regimental Sjt Major (Warrant Officer Cl 1) in the Welsh Guards. Wearing his Bearskin Hat and his medals in full dress uniform. (Gt War pair and LSGC). 30.1/4" by 22.3/4" in black lacquered frame with gilt edging. £40-60

A FRAMED SOUTH STAFFS DCM AWARD etc. Three framed award documents to 8/13740 Sergeant William O M Street of the South Staffordshire Regt. 1. XVII Division. Your name has been brought to the notice of the Major General Commanding the 17th Division for: 'Good reconnoitering on night of 19/20 December 1915'. 2. Handwritten message from the Adjudant regarding Sgt Street obtaining Distinguished Conduct Medal. 3. Original DCM award dated 12th April 1916. DCM: His Majesty the King has been graciously pleased to approve the award of the Distinguished Conduct Medal to the undermentioned N.C.O.8/13740 Sergeant W O M Street. For conspicuous gallantry when, in full moonlight and although frequently fired at, he made a good reconnaissance of the enemy's wire. He shows a total disregard for danger and has an excellent influence on the men under fire. (Certified True Copy) DCM LG 15/3/1916 8th Battalion. £40-60

A 16B/.22 RIFLE COMBINATION SPORTING GUN. A double-barrel 16b side by side shotgun with .22 barrel below, with Anson & Deeley and Wm Heym. Suhl. An ornately engraved hunting scene action, decorated with Dog and Gamebird engravings. Foliage and a stag in the forest below. 26.5" barrels, the lower rifle barrel has a tube to reduce the calibre to .22 from the original larger bore. Horn trigger guard and safety side selector, trigger and sight raising by sliding catch behind the top lever. A PIA KAETTA KNIFE. A 19thC Pia Kaetta with ornate handle of classical form, carved with foilage designs and inlaid decoration. The blade in mounted with silver and gilt ornate embellishments. The scabbard is of wood with partial silver overlay, again with fanciful designs. The single-edged blade is 7" with an overall length of 11.25". £150-200

CASED KREIGSMARINE BINOCULARS. In their original black leather case with the date 1940 and stamped E Lietz/Wetzlar. The lid has the Swaztika over M, inside are compartment flaps and clips. The 7 x 50 marked binoculars again with makers name and Kreigsmarine markings, number 19917N, 302559. Lens clarity and adjustments appear to be in full working order. £150-250

A GERMAN 1930's PERIOD PHOTOGRAPH ALBUM. Issued by the Nazi Party to the faithful, comprising of studio posed leaders and their understudies, party propoganda and meetings. Town and exercising themes in a well laid out, titled and display formatted style. 'Manner und Ereigniffe' unserer zeit , on the grey soft covers. £80-120

A SHAMSHIR SWORD. A middle-eastern Shamshir with rusted swept 30.5" blade. Straight quillions and partial metal wrapped classic grips. Heavy pitting towards the point, light grooved fullers. In a wooden scabbard with partial original covering, written details on it date it found in 1917 near Sinai. £100-150

AN 1897 PATTERN OFFICERS SWORD. An officers sword with field (for an 1897 full pattern blade) and correct parade scabbards present with outer leather carrycase. Edward VII cypher in the hilt guard and on the very clean, levee pattern blade. Black swordknot and both scabbards in very good condition, GFD initials on the outer carrycase. £150-200

A ROYAL ENGINEERS OFFICERS SWORD. A Victorian Royal Engineers sword with Hodgson & Son Woolwich mark. 1897 pattern with VR cypher in the hilt, and a grenade and Royal Engineers on the lightly curved 32.5" single-edged blade. Interestingly the very clean blade also has German marks for Weyersberg, Kirschbuam and Co 1883-1930, below the proved mark. The King and Knights helm above WKC, with its black painted scabbard. £150-200

A VICTORIAN OFFICERS SWORD. A Wilkinson three bar hilt sword, issued without numbers or cyphers. Plain heavy single-edged 34.5" blade, with three quarter fuller and sparse decoration. A family crest is in a cartouche, Vi et Virtute with initials below (JF JH?). Wooden two loop mount scabbard, with black leather covering. £150-200

A NAVAL OFFICERS SWORD, CARRYCASE & BELT. A Royal Navy officers sword and scabbard, with swordknot and leather outer case. The 31.1/4" blade has been heavily polished over the years of usage, leaving the etched details faint under the clean finish blade. Complete with scabbard and owners name inscribed in the hilt, also a carrycase. Kings crown cypher on both hilt and black leather swordbelt. £180-200

A MAHOUTS ANKUS. A 19thC gold decorated Mahouts Ankus, with fretted handle. 22.5" overall length with bells in the open or fretted shaft of 13.75". The tip and stylised spike are heavily decorated in leaf and foilage patterns. The tip itself has been turned over and requires straightening, for approximately 1/4" of its length.
