*Clayhills are believed to be the oldest merchant trading company in the Baltic, possibly in Europe and were founded in 1633 by a Reval (now Tallinn) merchant Thomas von Drenteln. After his death the company was left through marriage to the Clayhills family of Dundee, Scotland, who traded from the 17th century right up until 1940/41 when the company was nationalised during the Soviet period.
