The note was one of what seems to be a group of five notes, all from the same print run B2737XX and B2738XX, all in AU to UNC. Apparently, the notes were surfaced during the late 1970's and were first auctioned at the A.I.N.A. '81 sale / NASCA public auction sale, 30 April 1981. Most notes of this type are found in circulated condition, this is exceptional for type. A spectacular original UNC example, and the finest note extant, very rare £16,000-18,000

Of a great numismatic importance, the note believed to be the "missing link" of the 1939 series and the evidence that such a note was indeed printed and released into general circulation. (Refer to Dabbah's article, Currency Notes of the Palestine Currency Board - an Unknown 1939 £P50 Variety, IBNS, volume 54, number 4, 2012, pp.13-14). the 1939 £P50 Palestine Currency Board specimen notes are extremely rare by their own as only two are known extant, one of the circulation serif (large) typeface style serial number (mounted in PCB specimen notes book) and the discussed note. A Superb Group of Negatives Showing Essays From The Emil Pikovski Printing Works in Palestine


This group of negative transparencies showing Palestine essays, along with a £P1 proof (Dabbah p.361), were the only related Palestine/Pikovsky material in private hands as all others are being held in the Bank of Israel Archives/Museum.
