Note: Josef Hartwig (German 1880-1955), Architectural Designer at the Bauhaus School. He designed his original chess set design in 1924 in plain and stained black pear wood.
These commemorative sets were given as gifts to people who had a hand in the afore mentioned Symposia. This particular one was gifted to Prof Norman Laws, Professor of Mechanical Engineering, University of Pittsburgh.
