Arty" and countersigned by Thomas Groundwater, Major in charge, carried by private ship to Liverpool with a reasonable strike of the scarce circular unframed "INDIA SOLDIERS / 3 / LIVERPOOL" (Rob. In6, only recorded 1838-39). The writer gives his address as "2nd Co., 2nd Batt Bombay Artillery, Scinde Field Force or elsewhere", and reports his imminent departure for Scinde. 1864 Cover to Devon headed "From Gr Standard, H.M.S "Hydra", Corfu" and countersigned by the Commanding Officer, the 1d sailors concession rate paid by a 1d red cancelled "466" upon arrival at Liverpool. Carried by a private ship upon which a 1d gratuity was paid to the Captain, this 1d recovered from the addressee with a "1d" charge mark applied. Unusually handstamped with two differing Ship Letter datestamps, red Paid tombstone type (S19) on the front and boxed datestamp (S18) on the reverse.
