Jean Batten. 1937 Cover (torn) posted from Bondi Beach with an Australia KGV 2d, to Lady Hay Drummond-Hay (Journalist, the first woman to fly around the world in a Zeppelin) in London. Enclosed is a letter signed by the famous New Zealand aviator Jean Batten, from The Royal Aero Club of N.S.W at Mascot, which refers to her recent record solo flight from England to New Zealand. Batten had also made a record breaking solo flight from England to Australia in 1934. An uncommon autograph. £140-160

WORLD WAR TWO MILITARY & P.O.W MAIL The "Hill" family correspondence, mainly sent to or from Driver A.W Hill or his brother Private A.W.S Hill, and their parents in London. Both brothers served in the R.A.S.C and saw initial training in England. A.W.S Hill (Wal) was later sent to the Middle East, and served in Egypt for most of the war. His brother A.W. Hill (Wes) was sent to France with the B.E.F and evacuated from Dunkirk, then went to India and on to Singapore where he was captured by the Japanese. He was imprisoned in Singapore before being transferred to Thailand in 1943. He was at No. 1 P.O.W Camp at Ubon when liberated in August 1945, and returned to the UK via Rangoon. The following ten lots comprise the brothers complete wartime letters, and offer an increasingly uncommon opportunity to acquire an entire Japanese P.O.W correspondence to and from a single prisoner.
